US administers 1st doses of Pfizer coronavirus vaccine
ABCNews The rollout of the first coronavirus vaccine began Monday morning and marked a major turning point in the U.S. s battle against surging case numbers as the first doses of the Pfizer medication was administered to health care workers and nursing home staffers.
Sandra Lindsay, a critical care nurse from Northwell Long Island Jewish Medical Center was the first vaccinated in New York at 9:23 a.m. during a livestreamed event with Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Lindsay, who lives in Queens, one of the hardest hit counties in the country, told the governor she wanted to instill trust in the vaccine.

This morning, an intensive care unit nurse in Queens, New York, became the very first person in the U.S. to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccination.
The injection went to Sandra Lindsay, a nurse with the Northwell Long Island Jewish Medical Center. She received it at 9:23 a.m. ET, according to CNN.
“I am hopeful,” Lindsay said. “I feel hopeful today. I am relieved. I feel like healing is coming. I hope this marks the beginning of the end of a very painful time in our history.” I feel like healing is coming. And live on TV for the world to see – at 9:23am – was an African American critical care nurse from Northwell Long Island Jewish Medical Center getting vaccinated.
“I want to instill public confidence that the vaccine is safe,” critical care nurse
Sandra Lindsey told reporters after receiving the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Her vaccination was also streamed live in an online event organized by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who reminded her that she “didn’t flinch,” either.

On Friday evening, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech for emergency use, the first COVID-19 vaccine to be approved in the U.S.
The emergency use authorization allows BNT162b2, the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, to be distributed in the U.S for people over the age of 16. It was found to be 95 percent effective at preventing symptomatic COVID-19 in clinical trials.
