of all time, thankfully he's willing to say it out loud. when there are schools transitioning young people from one biological sex to another and then they believe they shouldn't be notifying parents, or there are schools that are teaching white kids that are oppressors and black kids that they are victims and parents are never notified and told this is not critical race theory, it's just diversity, equity and inclusion, we should be saying how in the heck did we get here. i wrote a book on it, the left believes the most effective way to societal change to change the lens which the youngest think and what they value and believe is virtue, so they focused on education and they started in the ivy league and college, but their target has always been to get to elementary school and here we are. so you have to understand the depth of the problem if you want to take it on. >> sandra: and some of what we have heard from this administration on handling these
in florida, republican governor ron desantis is blocking an ap african american studies class because in his view that high school course promotes critical race theory which goes against the state's stop woke act. cnn's sara sidner is with us. they went on to say the course significantly lacks educational value. let's take a step back here. what is going on? >> critical race theory has really come to signify something that it isn't. it's been kind of a catch-all phrase that people use for things they don't like and the worry here on parents' part, you've seen blowups in school after school, district after district, parents worried that either white children are going to be treated differently, treated as if they are the oppressors and black children are going to learn that they are the victims. that is the underlying fear that has been ginned up, frankly, by politicians and those who intend to make this a political point.
we haven't seen the specific things that they don't think should be talk and sure would. ultimately you're talking about the state board and this program, the college board, excuse me, they are the people that sort of implement ap so those are high-level advanced placement classes, classes that if you pass them and the test, you get college credit fort it. so it's college level work. guess what, crt is generally taught in college and not just college but law school. so it is very rare that something like crt, the actual, you know, teachings of critical race theory would be taught in k through 12s. most do not teach it but a lot conflate it with other things and group it into the big thing and the thing parents have been screaming about and worried about is they're worried white children will be taught that they are oppressors and black children will be taught they are
