Ballinadee Bus - revved up and ready to go

May 17, 2021 12:25 pm A lockdown project – Ballinadee Bus – to occupy the minds and bodies of the McCarthy family on their farm near Kinsale in Co. Cork, has developed into a novel way for the family to generate additional revenue. Not only that, the double-decker restoration project also gave them a positive focus for the future following the tragic death by suicide of their beloved father, Paddy, in May 2020. Ballinadee Bus was the brainchild of Thomas McCarthy, whose suggestion to buy a double-decker and transform it into an Airbnb property was embraced by his siblings Anna and Rachel. The trio, along with the help of many, spent the last seven months gutting and restoring the bus, which has now taken pride of place on their farm.

Farm family in drive to convert double decker bus

December 13, 2020 9:00 am A West Cork farm family who raised over €30,000 for Pieta House after their father died by suicide during lockdown are now on a drive to convert an old double decker bus into an AirBnB. Paddy McCarthy from Ballindee, Co. Cork, died tragically on May 1 at the age of 59. His son Thomas had to take three flights over 23 hours to return from Canada to attend the funeral. Trying to keep themselves busy during lockdown, Thomas, his brother Niall and their sisters Rachel and Anna came up with the idea of converting an old double decker bus into a novel AirBnB on the family farm.
