WAC joyfully welcomes patrons for 30th anniversary season

As the programming team approached building the 2021-22 season at the Walton Arts Center with cautious optimism, the first priority on their minds was previous artist commitments. How many pre-pandemic bookings could be honored as things begin to reopen? Travel restrictions, particularly international, have prevented some rebookings, but Executive Producer and Vice President of Programming Scott Galbraith admits the staff are otherwise thrilled with how many contracts were reissued.

New Music Monday for April 19, 2021 - Jazz 88.3 KCCK

New Music Monday for April 19, 2021       Fans of Greg Skaff may know him as one of modern jazz’s premier organ jazz guitarists through his own trios with hard grooving greats like Mike LeDonne and Pat Bianchi; or as a veteran first-call sideman, from his early years with soul-jazz titan Stanley Turrentine through decades of work with the likes of Freddie Hubbard, Matt Wilson, Bobby Watson and countless others. Despite that impressive resume, Skaff mark a career first with his new album, “Polaris,” enlisting jazz royalty Ron Carter and Albert “Tootie” Heath for his first ever guitar/bass/drums trio album, reuniting the legendary bassist and drummer for the first time in decades.

On Stage—Swinging Organ Masters

On Stage Swinging Organ Masters Share It’s as swinging a pair of sessions as you’ll ever hear, produced as they were broadcast LIVE in KUVO’s Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio. For some keyboardists, one row of keys isn’t enough. They need two! And foot pedals! These are organists, and their rich, full palette of sounds have driven jazz combos since before the days of Jimmy Smith. At KUVO’s Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio, we arranged to have a classic Hammond B-3 brought in with a Leslie speaker. The results were magical in the hands of the Joey DeFrancesco Trio from 2001, accompanied by Paul Bollenback on guitar and Byron Landham on drums.
