The Chinese military has stated that the situation along the India-China border is "generally stable" and that both sides are maintaining "effective" communication to resolve the military standoff in eastern Ladakh. This comes in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi s recent interview with Newsweek magazine, where he expressed hope for positive engagement to restore peace and tranquility at the borders. Both countries have agreed to reach a mutually acceptable solution soon. The eastern Ladakh standoff, which began in May 2020, has resulted in a freeze of bilateral ties except for trade, despite 21 rounds of corps commanders-level talks.
