Hubert de Givenchy knew from the time that he was a young boy that he was meant to design women s fashions. And design he did: From dressing the likes of Bettina Graziani, Lauren Bacall, Elizabeth Taylor, Deeda Blair, Greta Garbo, and Rachel Lambert Mellon (he designed her evening dresses
and gardening clothes, while she designed his gardens), and of course most famously his longtime collaboration with Audrey Hepburn, Givenchy burst onto the French couture scene at the age of 24, wowing the press and retailers alike with his distinct eye and his elegant attitude towards separates, and continued to command attention until his last show in 1995.
