PUTRAJAYA (Bernama): The appeal hearing of former federal territories minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor
(pic) against his conviction and sentence for accepting a bribe of RM2mil from a businessman has completed at the Court of Appeal here on Thursday (April 22).
Initially, the court fixed three days beginning Thursday to hear Tengku Adnan's appeal, but the proceedings, which started at 9.55am, ended at 12.52pm after counsel Datuk Tan Hock Chuan, representing Tengku Adnan as appellant and deputy public prosecutor Asmah Musa finished their submissions.
However, the court reserved its decision to a date yet to be fixed.
A three-member bench led by Court of Appeal Judge Datuk Suraya Othman said the court would need time to consider the matter and would inform parties involved once they were ready with the decision date.

His lawyer, Datuk Tan Hock Chuan, when contacted by reporters, said the Appeals Court deputy registrar, Darmafikri Abu Adam, set April 22 and 23 April to hear the appeal during the case management, conducted through the Zoom application.
The proceeding was also attended by deputy public prosecutor Rullizah Abdul Majid, who said the court also fixed March 5 for further case management.

His lawyer, Datuk Tan Hock Chuan, when contacted by reporters, said the notice of appeal was filed Monday through the online judicial system (e-filing).
Meanwhile, deputy public prosecutor Julia Ibrahim said whether or not the prosecution would file an appeal over the sentence would be made by the Attorney General’s Chambers within 14 days from the date of judgement.

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21 — Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has been found guilty by the High Court today on a charge of accepting a RM2 million bribe from a businessman in his capacity as former Federal Territories minister.
In delivering his judgment to a packed courtroom, High Court judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan said Tengku Adnan had failed to raise reasonable doubt in the prosecution’s case after conducting a maximum evaluation of all the evidence tendered in court.

Kuala Lumpur: The High Court here today sentenced former Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor to 12 months in jail and RM2 million fine, in default six months’ jail, after finding him guilty on a graft charge with receiving RM2 million from a businessman in 2016.
However, Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan granted Tengku Adnan’s application for a stay of execution of the jail term and fine pending his appeal.
Earlier, in convicting Tengku Adnan, 70, on the charge, Justice Mohamed Zaini ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt and the Putrajaya MP had also failed to raise reasonable doubts in the prosecution's case.
