Al Sadd extend dominance in QSL Round 16  16 Feb 2021 - 10:03 Al Sadd's Santi cazorla in action against Al Ahli players. The Peninsula Doha: The 16th week of this season's QNB Stars League (QSL) witnessed hot action with Table toppers Al Sadd recording yet another win to extend their dominance. A total of 11 goals were scored over six matches, all of which ended in victories. On Saturday, Al Sadd kept their 13-point lead over closest challengers and holders Al Duhail on top of the table following their 3-0 win over Al Ahli. Baghdad Bounedjah, Boualem Khoukhi and substitute Tarek Salman scored the goals as Al Sadd moved on to 44 points. Al Ahli slipped from sixth to seventh place with 23 points.

Picture: Hussein Sayed Fawad Hussain/ The Peninsula New signing Michael Olunga fired a hat-trick on his Amir Cup debut as former champions Al Duhail yesterday scored three goals in each half to crush Al Ahli 6-0 and cruise into the quarter-finals of the country’s most popular tournament at Grand Hamad Stadium.  Also yesterday, Second Division side Al Shamal stunned Qatar SC (5-4) on penalties after a 2-2 draw, while Al Kharaitiyat edged Al Wakrah 2-1 to book their last-8 spots.

Fawad Hussain/ The Peninsula Al Sadd are unstoppable this season. ‘The Wolves’ are not just defeating their opponents - they are thrashing them, and yesterday it was another ruthless display of attacking football. On their home turf, Xavi Hernandez-coached side crushed Al Khor 7-0 to continue their goal-fest that has seen them scoring 60 goals from 15 matches at an average of 4 goals per match. The closest side to reigning Amir Cup champions in terms of scoring are QSL champions Al Duhail, who have netted 37 times from 15 games.

QNB Stars League points leaders Al Sadd won 5-0. The Peninsula Doha: Doha football giants Al Sadd yesterday delivered a commanding performance with a 5-0 demolition of bottom-placed Al Kharaitiyat. Coached by Xavier Hernandez, hosts Al Sadd eased past Al Kharaitiyat in Week 12 of QNB Stars League.  After a goalless first half, Al Sadd - playing at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium - turned on the goal-fest in the second half for their 10th win of the season.

Fawad Hussain/ The Peninsula Feared striker Baghdad Bounedjah scored deep into the second half as Al Sadd edged arch-rivals Al Rayyan 1-0 in their traditional Qatar Clasico clash at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.  After a sensational first half performance from both the sides, Al Sadd dominated the final session with Bounedjah netting the winner in 83rd minute – once again proving his mettle following his brace in the Wolves’ 2-1 win over Al Arabi in the Amir Cup final on Friday.
