Tourism industry sets sights on 2023
Tourism in Portugal should reach the 2019 pre-pandemic levels in 2023.
“The forecast is that we will reach the 2019 numbers again in 2023”, said Luís Araújo, the president of Turismo de Portugal, arguing that this goal “is perfectly possible”, although “obviously, very subject to the conditions of connectivity and mobility” in the near future.
For the official the signs “are very positive, in terms of vaccination, the opening of other markets and a resumption of normal activity”.
Current indicators also show an “enormous search” for the destination, highlighted the president of Turismo de Portugal.
With the plan “Reactivate Tourism. Build the Future”, forecasts are that Portuguese tourism will reach €27 billion in revenue in 2027.

The President of the Azores Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, on Monday called for the Portuguese Tourist Board to represent the whole country “and not just tourism on the mainland”.
At the presentation of the action plan “Reactivate Tourism. Building the Future”, which took place today in Ponta Delgada, the social democrat left a challenge “that Tourism of Portugal is really Tourism of Portugal and not just tourism of the mainland”.
The plan in question was presented today in Ponta Delgada by the chairman of the tourist board, Luís Araújo, at a session also attended by the secretary of State for Tourism, Rita Marques, and the regional secretary for Transport, Tourism and Energy, Mário Mota Borges.
