India s peak power demand is expected to surpass 400 GW by 2030, prompting the government to establish additional generation capacity, according to Union Power Minister R K Singh. Singh emphasised the importance of electricity for development and stated that the country s power shortage has been reduced to less than 1%. He also highlighted the significant growth in renewable energy capacity, with plans to reach 500 GW by 2030.
As per the recent ratings announced by the power ministry, NPCL, BRPL, BYPL, and TPDDL have emerged as the top performers among all the 62 rated power distribution companies (discoms) in the country. These discoms have achieved the highest rating of A+.

During a two-day review meeting of top power and energy officials, Singh highlighted the need to eliminate load shedding and urged distribution companies (discoms) to enhance capacity, sign power purchase agreements (PPAs), and improve efficiency.
