attention. let me read it and we ll talk about it on the other side. ron brounstein said this, no matter how hard conservative columnists and commentators try to obscure it, the evidence keeps mounting trump s movement infused in racism and authoritarianism is the dominant gop faction too big for almost any party skeptics to openly oppose. i think it s time to abandon any pretense that everyone other than kinzinger and cheney isn t now complicit in what is revealed. i think a pivot is required now. there have never been two sides to the trump question, but this is now a pro-insurrection, pro-ashley babbitt, anti-law enforcement republican party. how ironic is it that the justification for throwing liz cheney out of leadership the republicans wanted to move on, right? they didn t want to relitigate
out to the streets and talk to people and get people to call senators and get onboard even though people like me may not see how it s going to happen. and so they watch this space. as the kids say that s something those leaders keep telling us. i don t think you re a cynical journalist. i think there s something structural in how we view biden and how biden and his closest advisers see their mission. i want to read this analysis, donna edwards, from the atlantic interest ron brounstein who i think we all know is pretty smart about these things. he writes this. the struggle conflicts with the broader political positioning that biden and his staff have pursued since he s taken office. biden has limited his personal engagement with cultural issues and focused on kitchen table items. voting rights starkly divides the parties and has become a symbol for the larger struggle
voters support for trump isn t fading. it just seems to be growing. a new cnn/orc poll shows trump is on top of the field in the key state of iowa, the state that belonged really to scott walker just a few weeks ago. the poll numbers also tell us that voters there trust trump as the best candidate to handle some of the country s biggest challenges. them also think he has the best chance to win the general election. trump isn t the only candidate seeing his fortunes rise in these polls. a lot to discuss. let s bring in cnn senior political analyst ron brounstein, editorial director of the national journal. and the national political correspondent for the washington post. it s grit to see you both. not only is he leading, he s not only leading there, he s also leading on key issues on the economy, on immigration, even on
manpower they will need. that is a key question. ron, we have hillary clinton holding her lead in iowa over bernie sanders, though sanders has jumped ahead now in new hampshire. but take a look at who else is still there. joe biden at 12% seeing new reports now, of course, again this morning that he is giving off strong signals. he s still considering jumping into the race. what do you think the chances are? joe biden is a beloved figure, particularly after his turn as vice president. he s run for president twice before and was not a terrific candidate either time. he was a better senator than he was a presidential candidate. he will be five years older than ronald reagan when he was first inaugurated. i think there are still a lot of hurdles. this e-mail server story is not going away. it s going to be a barrel in the shark, as they said in jaws for a long time.
terrorism. this is, of course, without any real specifics that he s laid out. how do you explain it? well, look, there is a long way to go. we are dealing with mutable impressions as evidenced by fact donald trump, carly fiorina and ben carson improved in the poll following the debate. having said that this is a good poll for donald trump. it does show out more than just celebrity and name i.d. and focus. his advantage is extending to issues in the critical state of iowa. the only thing to keep in mind at this point in the race voters impressions are very shallow. and until candidates really start engaging with each other particularly on tv it s hard to know where they stand. having said that the fact he s leading in the overall horse race and beginning to see issue advances is a positive sign. ron mentioned carly fiorina. that s another one of the headlines coming out of the iowa numbers is the surge of carly
