Last Week’s Visitors
We’ll have to do this weekly. Here are last weekend’s people.
QB: We’ll cover Justyn Martin below.
TE: KS 3* ATH Jaren Kanak ⬇ was told he’d get a legit chance to play two ways($), just like Ron Kramer, and Michigan in his ear again($, info in title) on Monday. Unfortunately Kanak got a Clemson offer at a Clemson camp during the week, and crystal balls are going in for the Tigers($, info in title) as we speak, hence the red arrow. He visits Bama, who’s also looking at him as a hybrid OLB, next weekend.
DT: Sorry to get everyone’s hopes up on 2021 CA 4* NT Jay Toia ⬇⬇⬇. Sam Webb told us during the taping of WTKA yesterday that Toia had UCLA ahead all along but the family was convinced USC was going to block that, and since he was about to share that on air I figure it’s not a secret. Michigan truthfully informed them that wasn’t the case, and they went “Oh,” and he went to UCLA. At least USC still hates us for it. We also checked a lot of boxes($, info in title) for FL 3* build-a-bear Hayden Schwartz ⬆, who added a trip to Nebraska($, info in title) next weekend and still has a trip planned to Northwestern. I’m kind of grateful to those for giving me time to procrastinate on a Hello post, if you’re wondering how we’re feeling about this recruitment now.
Edge/OLB: FL 3* Micah Pollard ⬆ spoke to Steve Wiltfong($) after his visit, sharing “The way the defense is set up is the exact way I want to play in college.” I take that to mean “in a winged helmet” but we first have to survive the biggest recruiting weekend in UCF history.
LB: So outta nowhere (okay, Hawaii) we had 2023 HI 4* Tausili Akana, who’s the #1 LB to 247 next year and not ranked anywhere else yet. It’s 2023 but sounds good.

1. Football in 1956
(starts at 1:00)
F. Scott Fitzgerald was a super weird fan. Eisenhower vs. Stevenson. Platooning is out, T-formation passing and facemasks are in. Rose Bowl has a no-repeat rule. Ohio State is banned from the postseason. The Pac falls apart because every school is selling each other out. Everybody’s playing each other. Racism: South is still segregated, North has an unofficial quota system so every team has one Black guy. At Michigan: Slippery Rock scores, a dog that makes a dashing goal line stand, and the Salk polio vaccine.
2. Fucking Kramer

Had a sweeter shooting stroke than Caleb Houstan. Created the modern tight end who’s both offensive tackle and downfield receiving threat. “It was like having a license to play 12 guys” –Lombardi. At his funeral they asked the assembled “Who’s ever been kissed on the mouth by Ron Kramer” and everyone raised their hand, including the media, and Don Canham’s wife. Was to Michigan fans of his day as Denard is to modern fans. Never lifted a weight. “Big” scandal before 1956: his GPA is a 2.01 because Michigan just gives solid letter grades, but you need a C+ average, and Look Magazine reports Kramer shouldn’t be eligible.

Rochester, N.Y., United States:
Dalian Linton NC Machine Co. Ltd. has opened a more than 70,000 square meter research and design center and manufacturing base in Xishan, Wuxi, China. This comes just eight years after obtaining the exclusive license to use the Kayex brand name and becoming the one and only owner of Kayex technology. The opening of the new facility brings the annual CZ grower equipment production capacity of Linton to more than 2,000 units per year.
“Over the years, we’ve taken the proprietary Kayex technology we were entrusted with and added engineering and service expertise, supported by a strong manufacturing infrastructure and sales team,” explains Ron Kramer, director of business development for Linton. “Since taking over the Kayex brand, we have tripled in size as a company and introduced nine new models of grower, as well as several updates and retrofits. The completion of this new facility in Wuxi enables us to conduct research, design and manufacturing of our CZ process growers under one roof, expediting product delivery to customers.”

Five men targeted in a road rage shooting in Lehi are suing the man who allegedly fired at them for $25 million.
On Jan. 25, the five men were carpooling southbound on Interstate 15 near Lehi. According to court documents, Jesse David Luker began tailgating their truck while they were driving in the HOV lane. The two drivers changed lanes several times to try to get in front of each other, swerving at each other. Eventually, Luker pulled out a handgun and fired several shots from his truck toward the other truck, police said.

Now that schools in the four "yellow" counties will be allowed to start playing games, it's uncertain whether enough officials will be available.

All eyes are on the coin as referee Jeff Mertzel, left, flips to determine whether Cony or Mt. Ararat will start the game with possession of the ball for the first game of the winter sports season on Jan. 11 in Augusta. Mertzel said about 40 percent of basketball referees who officiated in central Maine last winter have chosen not to return this year.
