City Manager Ronnie Dixon swears in LeWayne Allen to Clay Council Place 3 “I’ve been knowing LeWayne for several years,” Mayor Charles Webster said. “…He actually come to me over a year ago and he wanted to serve in some capacity, so he was appointed to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Then, he actually run at the last election and here he is going to get to serve out Ben Thackerson’s term. So, we’re glad to have him on board.”

City of Clay Movie Nights to begin May 21

By Crystal McGough CLAY — Clay City Councilor Bo Johnson announced at the regular Clay Council meeting on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, that the city’s annual movie nights will kick off a week from this Friday with the movie “Onward.” The city will hold three Friday night movie nights behind the new Clay Public Library beginning at 7 p.m. on May 21, June 4 and June 18. “Faith Community Fellowship is going to pull their trailer up and provide food and drinks for that,” Johnson said. “We’ve got a couple of other churches coming on board to help with popcorn and cotton candy and, quite possibly, Faith Community is going to handle the inflatables for us this year, as well. It’s cool to have people and churches working together for that event. We encourage everybody to come out.”

By Crystal McGough CLAY — Jane Anderton, of Clay, attended the Clay City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, where she told the council of her desire to form a community volunteer group called “Caretakers of Cosby Lake.” “What I would like for us to do is offer opportunities for community volunteers to come out to Cosby and work on the eradication of all of the invasive species that are out there,” she said. “Mainly that devil, privet, some Mimosa, some of those kind of things.” Anderton said that she would also like to provide opportunities to plant native species around the trails at Cosby Lake.
