It’s not every day that you see an actor who, within two years of their debut, appeared in three consecutive films that, in addition to earning critical acclaim, placed the said actor on the pan-Indian radar. But Anna Ben, despite being in such an enviable position, prefers to approach every film as though it’s her first. “For me, everything still feels very new,” she says. “I’m still at the start of my career, and for a long time, that’s how I’m going to think. I’m still experimenting with characters I have not tried before. Besides, every film set is different because every director has a different style. You are learning and unlearning on every film.”

After Thuramukham, producer Sukumar Thekkepat has announced a new production titled Thuruth (Island), developed by a group of newcomers led by filmmaker Habeeb Muhamed, who will direct from a script he co-wrote with Tony Joy Manavalan.
The former, who hasn’t assisted anyone before, gained his filmmaking experience from short films. Instead of the conventional approach of releasing a poster, the makers released a four-minute footage instead. The video gives viewers a taste of what to expect from the project.
What's most impressive about it is they shot it with money from their own pockets before Sukumar came on board. The team comprises Nikhil Surendran (director of photography) and Anandhu Chakravarthy (editor).

There is a new Portuguese film out on Amazon Prime Video, which I decided to check out for a simple reason. The lead character is a writer-columnist battling severe anxiety issues. Losing My Marbles (Depois a louca sou eu) has a strong female presence on and off-screen.
It comes from the imagination of author Tati Bernardi, whose novel became the basis for the film; director Julia Rezende; and actress Débora Falabella.
Since I haven’t read the book, I’m assuming the lead character, Dani (Débora Falabella), is the alter-ego of Tati Bernardi. For Dani, almost everything around her is a trigger. Have you ever cancelled that birthday party, that meeting, or that date simply because sudden panic held you in its vice-like grip?

In the documentary Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures, Steven Spielberg described Kubrick as a filmmaker who, when given a blank canvas, painted with large brush strokes and delicately presented some of his boldest ideas. Perhaps the same can be said of KG George, a darling of every hardcore Malayali cinephile. In 8 1/2 Intercuts: Life and Films of KG George, we get a fitting tribute to a maverick filmmaker who went against the grain and made, over twenty years, films that stimulated the intellect and kickstarted neverending discussions.
