Govt-opposition deadlock persists over formation of Senate committees April 25, 2021 The formation of standing committees of the Senate has hit a snag due to stalemate between the government and opposition parties over the chairmanship of some important committees. Sources told Daily Times that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) wants to make Sherry Rehman the chairperson of standing committee on foreign affairs and Saleem Mandviwalla to head standing committee on finance, besides seeking the chairmanship of standing committee on interior. On the other hand, the PML-N is also insisting on the chairmanship of the same standing committees, in addition to that of the standing committee on water and power.

Gilani urges ECP to dismiss disqualification case against him

Daily Times * ECP reserves verdict on maintainability of plea against PTM’s Ali Wazir April 6, 2021 Leader of the Opposition in Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani and his son Ali Haider Gilani submitted their replies in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) as the commission heard a petition filed by PTI leaders seeking disqualification of the former prime minister from the Senate seat. As the hearing began on Monday, Gilani requested the commission to dismiss disqualification pleas against him for being ‘inadmissible’ as the allegations levelled by the PTI members were ‘baseless’ and ‘frivolous’. He further called Parliamentary Leader for Railways Farrukh Habib and Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Justice Barrister Maleeka Bokhari as ‘habitual petitioners’. The case was filed on the basis of some ‘unauthentic’ videos, he claimed.
