the other challenge is you have haley, the home state favorite in south carolina. tim scott is one of the most popular republicans in south carolina. they both have a similar message. they are shadow boxing at these campaign events early on but they are also competing for the same number of supporters and donors. so if there is a lane, an opportunity for different type of republican candidate, they are dividing a lot of the support amongst themselves right now. john: a lot can happen in terms of candidates rising and falling in a campaign but could either of them take on ron desantis. if you are a republican says time to move on from former president donald trump, do you need to look any further than ron desantis? there are a lot of questions about ron desantis s ability to with stand all the criticisms in a tough presidential campaign. we ll see where ron desantis lands on a lot of the top issues. he got into some trouble lately by taking a more isolationist
tell, to be honest the senate is in, just coming back they re hearing certainly from constituents the house is out this week just last week you had senator tim scott sending a letter about maybe not needing as much regulation here, not needing as much capital it s hard for me to see house republicans in particular make a big effort here which would be a necessary component for some kind of a bipartisan package i would look to the fact that a lot of republican leadership has been very quiet so far when it comes to calling for either more regulation or the fact that there s been a lot of criticism about this being a bailout or government intervention. so those kinds of words and those kinds of kind of the shadow boxing that happens in washington makes me skeptical at least in the short term that there s going to be any kind of large bipartisan package. so short of that, where are we going here, steph that remains to be seen when you talk about republican
this was the first time they aired trump on fox in almost half a year, in about five months. we can t stop them at the ballot box. they tried that in 2016. how did that work out? not too good. and we actually i have to say this i hope fox doesn t turn off, but we did much better in 2020 than we did in 2016. much better. it s kind of rare to see all the forces out in the open. they don t like to work this way, but they re under significant pressure, billion dollar pressure. we re seeing evidence come out, seeing the usual back room fights spill out. we re seeing candidates use time at the lectern, and trump does talk about the media more than most, sure, but to call out the billionaire guy behind the guy? and this may be a key part of the early kind of shadow boxing a this republican primary. desantis hasn t jumped in. people don t see anyone in the race right now who can stop trump. and the guy who got a pardon
