Local Expert Says We're Far From Herd Immunity | News Radio 1200 WOAI

May 4, 2021 A local expert says it s too soon to start talking about herd immunity. The White House says 100-million American adults are now fully vaccinated, or nearly 40% of all adults. Dr. Shelley Payne, head of the Center for Infectious Disease at UT, says we need to get to 70% to reach herd immunity, and that s going to take a while. Payne points to CDC figures that show vaccines have hit a plateau. She says there needs to be a coordinated national effort to vaccinate those who either can t or don t want to go to a clinic.
