10 historic Greenwood landmarks to help you learn about the Tulsa Race Massacre Brandy McDonnell, Oklahoman Replay Video UP NEXT TULSA The 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission is preparing to unveil its primary brick-and-mortar project, Greenwood Rising: The Black Wall Street History Center, on June 2 as one of its numerous events scheduled in the coming days to mark the 100th anniversary of the tragedy. The $18.6 million, 11,000-square-foot history center is joining several other monuments, memorials and landmarks in the historic Greenwood District that help chronicle the history of the Tulsa Race Massacre. It s an all-inclusive history center that will utilize technology, visuals, photographs, videos, all to encapsulate the history, said Phil Armstrong, project director for the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission.

Fashion photographer Nikki Gomez was born and raised in New York City. But in November, on a tip from a friend, she joined Tulsa Remote, a one-year program that gives eligible workers a $10,000 grant if they relocate to Tulsa, Oklahoma. I was like, why not? Gomez said. I m sure I can make a living in Tulsa doing what I do.

It started after Transformation Church bought all the inventory at Silhouette Sneakers & Art and the owner wanted to pay it forward. Owner Venita Cooper said it is society s responsibility to wrap its arms around the most vulnerable and lift them up in times of need.   “It s been a rough year for people,” said Cooper. “It s the responsibility of everybody to help their neighbors whenever they can… help the community whenever they can. The community rode with us throughout the year. They re the reason we re still standing.   She said after deciding to help out with rent many other businesses wanted in, too.
