In the second or third quarter, fintech company Ascan is planning to launch a new feature in vending machines that allows customers to buy alcoholic beverages using SingPass, instead of a physical NRIC at shops, to confirm that they are at least 18 years old - the legal drinking age here.

News DBS Bank supports SME open accounts in Singapore with selfie authentication Friday 26 February 2021 09:39 CET | News Singapore’s DBS Bank has announced that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can set up a corporate account with the financial institution using selfie authentication. As such, DBS has announced that SME owners can now verify their identities with a facial recognition scan when signing up for a new account online. The feature is being developed through Singapore’s new SingPass Face Verification feature. SingPass is a national digital identity program in Singapore. The database for the Face Verification feature contains more than 4 million images pulled from passports and national identity cards.

Advanced Facial Biometrics Now Being Used by Singapore's DBS Bank to Perform Data Authentication and Verification

Singapore-based DBS Bank Ltd (SGX:D05), a multinational banking and financial services corporation with over $330 billion in assets, is reportedly using facial biometrics for handling online corporate account opening processes for small businesses. This should help the bank with speeding up information authentication and verification. This new feature is being run on the Government Technology Agency of Singapore’s (GovTech) SingPass Face Verification technology. DBS reveals that it’s the first banking institution to be using the technology for the local business community. DBS had first launched SingPass Face Verification as a test for small business account opening back in November 2020. Since that time, the bank claims that over 100 clients have started usig the new feature.
