republican congressman jim jordan of ohio gave an impassioned speech nominating mccarthy again. immediately after that republican congressman matt gaetz of florida nominated jordan. jordan, however, has previously said he doesn t want to be speaker. he d rather be chair of the house judiciary committee. the second ballot resulted with democrat hakeem jeffries securing 212 vote, all democrats staying together in a bloc for jeffries who is expected to be minority leader. mccarthy this time around ballot number two maintained 203 votes but all the other votes, all 19 went to jordan. interesting. that led right to a third ballot with incoming republican majority leader steve scalise nominating mccarthy. gop congressman chip roy of texas stood up soon after nominating jordan. this third ballot then moved in the wrong direction for mccarthy. jeffries still had 212 then mccarthy with 202, jordan with
