La cifra de víctimas mortales del derrumbe parcial de un edificio de 12 plantas en Surfside (Miami-Dade, EU) se elevó a 11, con el hallazgo de un cuerpo sin vida en la montaña de escombros en que quedó convertida la parte colapsada, informaron este lunes las autoridades.

Luis Andres Bermudez, a young graphic artist from Puerto Rico, was inspiring example of courage who never let a disability keep him from his dreams or dampen his sunny disposition, his former teacher said. Andres Bermudez, 26, lived with his mother Ana Ortiz, 46, who also was identified as one of the casualties of the collapse. Luis Andres is an example of courage and bravery FOR ALL of us, said Jose J. Ortiz Carlo, a teacher who had Andres Bermudez in a photography class at Robinson School in Puerto Rico, where he graduated in 2014.
Despite being confined to a wheelchair because of muscular dystrophy, Andres Bermudez, known as Luiyo, never missed school and was always smiling, the teacher said on Facebook.

A massive search and rescue operation entered its fifth day, as crews continued to carefully comb through the pancaked pile of debris in hopes of finding survivors. The partial collapse occurred at around 1:15 a.m. local time last Thursday at the Champlain Towers South condominium in the small, beachside town of Surfside, about 6 miles north of Miami Beach. Approximately 55 of the oceanfront complex s 136 units were destroyed, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Raide Jadallah.

(Reuters) -With search-and-rescue teams still sifting through the rubble of a collapsed Florida condominium building, authorities by Monday had identified eight of the 11 confirmed victims of the disaster, with 150 people still believed missing.
