The final phase of planning for the long-anticipated $1 billion light rail line extension from Redondo Beach to Torrance has begun, with Metro scheduled to host two virtual meetings before monthâs end to receive public input on the environmental effect of possible routes for the South Bayâs largest ever regional transit project.
The extension of the C Line, formerly and popularly known as the Green Line, represents the culmination of years of lobbying by the South Bay Cities Council of Governments. That agency, which represents cities in the region, has championed the extension in an area that has long lacked sufficient public transportation to other parts of Los Angeles County â forcing commuters to rely on the Southlandâs freeways.

The new policy will start Monday and end December 31.
Stay-at-home orders by state and county health officials prompted the move, with council members expressing sympathy for people vying for a limited number of street parking spots.
Council member Todd Loewenstein initially suggested a complete waiver of citation fines, but following a lively discussion, the lawmakers voted unanimously to reduce the fine to “about” $25 half of its current level. Because surcharges are extracted from fine revenues by state and other government entities, the exact amount to be levied to local residents is yet to be determined.
