Oscars: Blurring the Line Between Fact and Fiction With Narrative Films and Docs

While such narrative features as 'Nomadland' and the docu-comedy 'Borat Subsequent Moviefilm' lean into reality, this season's docs 'Collective,' 'My Octopus Teacher' and 'The Mole Agent' play more like dramatic inventions.

Where to stream the Oscars and nominated movies

Where to stream the Oscars and nominated movies From "Mank" to "Judas and the Black Messiah" to "AT&T TV" FacebookTwitterEmail The Oscars will air April 25, 2021, at 8 p.m. EDT. If you want to stream them, and the movies that are nominated, you have your work cut out for you – but why would you bother? The Oscars are just a bunch of malarky, right? Well, sorta. They’re definitely not a real “award show,” as in the movie that wins “Best Picture” is rarely the best film to come out that year (and if it is, it’s a coincidence). Instead, the ceremony is an advertisement for the movie industry. Movies about movies (This year: “Mank”) or movies that cover a timely issue (This year: “The Trial of the Chicago 7” has obvious parallels to the biggest news stories of 2020) have a huge advantage.

Chile's Film and TV Production Biz Revs Up Its Engines

Chile's Film and TV Production Biz Revs Up Its Engines Anna Marie de la Fuente, provided by March 1, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail After enduring endless months of COVID-19 lockdown, Chile’s film and TV industry is revving up production once more. And several women are leading the charge. Various high-profile titles are either in production or setting up dates, such as season two of Lucía Puenzo’s hit series “La Jauria” and, starting this month, Francisca Alegria’s debut feature, “The Cow Who Sang a Song About the Future.” Fernando Guzzoni’s “Blanquita” aims to start principal photography by July, says producer Giancarlo Nasi of Quijote Films, who also presides over Chile’s Film Arts Academy, founded in 2018.

Looking Back at Oscars 2020 winners + Oscars 2021 Details

WENN.com Way back when in early 2020, Hollywood––and everyone else––was enjoying its pre-pandemic innocence.  Early 2020 was an exciting entertainment awards season with the Golden Globes kicking things off on January 5th; then came the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards (BAFTA) on January 9th; The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards on Jan 19th; The 62nd Grammy Awards on January 26th; and ultimately, the awards season big finale: The 92nd Academy Awards ceremony on February 9th. Things were certainly good in the ‘Wood back then, but what we didn’t know at the time is that the 2020 Oscars would be one of the country’s last major entertainment events before lockdown began.

Is The 2021 International Feature Film Shortlist a Step Forward For an Embattled Oscar Category?

Is the 2021 International Feature Film Shortlist a Step Forward for an Embattled Oscar Category? Jessica Kiang, provided by FacebookTwitterEmail Eligibility controversies. Category name changes. Executive committee “saves” allowed. Executive committee “saves” disallowed. The introduction of a nine-entry shortlist. The expansion to 10. Then to 15…and so on. There has been no Academy Award category more frequently and fitfully tinkered with than best international feature film (formerly best foreign language feature). And so to the overriding question coming out of yesterday’s shortlist of 15 titles (formerly 10; née 9): have all the tinkerings been worth it? Have we finally — maybe even just randomly — hit on the precise combination of variables that will make the selection bulletproof? For the 93rd Academy Awards, with its numerological kismet of 93 international film submissions (equalling last year’s record-setting tally), and its reigning champ “Parasite” being, for the first time in history, also the best picture winner, it sure would be a great time to declare this most broken of categories “fixed.”
