Signing Off: Anderson talks about impact of being advisor

Posted By: Features Editor April 29, 2021 Dr. Stephanie Anderson sanderson37@murraystate.edu I made a decision in the spring of 2000 that changed my life forever. I decided to attend Murray State and study journalism.  I went on to earn my bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate from this great institution.  In 2012, I had the pleasure of joining the journalism and mass communication department as an adjunct lecturer.  Four years later, I moved into the role of assistant professor and publications adviser.  Since Aug. 2016, I have taught journalism courses and advised The Murray State News. It was a chance for me to share my years of media experience with aspiring collegiate journalists.

MSU President Details Need For Potential Tuition, Fees Increase

18:39 The spring 2021 semester is coming to a close, and Murray State University President Bob Jackson says lifting the outdoor mask mandate on campus is the first of many benchmarks in working toward a more ‘normal’ campus life. In a chat with WKMS News Director Rachel Collins, Jackson also details other benchmarks, the upcoming in-person commencement ceremonies and the university’s financial goals after receiving approval for a potential tuition increase. Jackson noted there’s no recommended increase in housing fees. He said the increase in dining fees are contractually set by Sodexo who manages Racer Dining, and attributed that partnership with MSU’s ability to provide “nationally-branded restaurants” such as Starbucks, Steak N Shake and Chick-fil-A on campus. He noted those offerings contribute to recruitment and retention efforts.

Apps help with taxes | Living | The Journal Gazette

Monday, April 19, 2021 1:00 am Apps help with taxes LIZ WESTON | NerdWallet Receipts, like memories, tend to fade with time. That s just one reason to digitize and track tax-related information. The right apps and habits can save space, time, money and hassle – but only if you use them. “Apps should make things easier, not more complicated,” says Clare Levison, a certified public accountant in Blacksburg, Virginia. “The definition of a good app is what works for you, not the one that s the trendiest.” Use tools you already have. Apps don t have to be elaborate. The camera on your phone, for example, can capture receipts and other documentation. Levison recommends regularly transferring those images to a designated folder in your photo app to make them easier to find later.
