Evart teen, stabbing suspect undergoing forensic examinations

REED CITY — An 18-year-old Evart teen charged with several felony offenses during his arraignment last month in 77th District Court alleging he stabbed a child multiple times will undergo forensic evaluations. Osceola County Prosecutor Tony Badovinac said Isaac Brant Wilkinson will undergo forensic examinations before any more court proceedings occur. The examinations are for criminal responsibility and competency. Wilkinson originally was scheduled for a preliminary examination in district court Thursday. Criminal responsibility means deciding if the defendant should be deemed responsible or not for the alleged crime based upon their mental or emotional state at the time of the offense.

Manton woman awaiting arraignment on weapons offense

MARION — A 33-year-old Manton woman is awaiting arraignment in Osceola County s 77th District Count after she was alleged to be carrying a concealed weapon in her car. At 5:20 p.m. on April 25, troopers from the Mount Pleasant Michigan State Police Post were working a traffic safety initiative on M-115 near 18 Mile Road in Osceola County s Highland Township when they stopped an SUV traveling southeast for speeding, according to a press release from the post. The SUV driven by the Manton woman was traveling 94 mph in a 55 mph zone, police said. The subsequent investigation led to the woman s arrest for carrying a concealed weapon, a pistol, on her person in the SUV. Police said the woman also was driving on a suspended license and had multiple outstanding warrants out for her arrest. The Manton woman was released from the scene and given an appearance ticket, according to Osceola County Prosecutor Tony Badovinac.

Evart teen charged for part in stabbing of 3-year-old

REED CITY — An 18-year-old Evart teen was charged with several felony offenses during his arraignment Wednesday in 77th District Court that alleged he stabbed a child he was babysitting multiple times. Isaac Brant Wilkinson was charged with first-degree child abuse, first-degree child abuse — committed in the presence of another child, torture, assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and assault with a dangerous weapon for his connection with an incident on April 19 in Evart. If convicted on the child abuse, torture and assault with intent to murder charges, Wilkinson faces up to life in prison.

Teen in custody after Evart stabbing of young child

REED CITY — A young Evart child sustained life-threatening injuries Monday after an 18-year-old male suspect allegedly stabbed him multiple times. The Osceola County Sheriff s Office reported at 4:14 p.m. on April 19 Meceola Central Dispatch received a 911 call about a stabbing that occurred on the 400 block of Pine Street in Evart. Deputies from the sheriff s office immediately responded along with Osceola County EMS, according to police. Once on scene, police said deputies located a young child who had suffered multiple life-threatening stab wounds. Police said the juvenile was transported to Grand Rapids to undergo surgery. After an investigation by the sheriff s office with assistance from the Michigan State Police, an 18-year-old male suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

Former Osceola County sheriff's deputy sentenced on child porn, drug crimes

REED CITY —A Reed City man and former Osceola County Sheriff s Deputy will spend more than three years in prison, at least, after he was sentenced on child pornography and drug offenses Wednesday in Osceola County s 49th District Court. Andrew Christian Wernette, 39, of Reed City was sentenced to between three years and four months to 25 years in prison for guilty pleas to two counts of aggravated child sexually abusive activity and between three years and four months to 20 years in prison for a guilty plea to using a computer to commit a crime. He also was sentenced to between three years and four months and 10 years in prison for a guilty plea to aggravated possession of child sexually abusive activity and between 8.5 months and seven years for a guilty plea to distributing or promoting child sexually abusive material.
