The Leader Newspaper The secretary of the Torrevieja Local Government Board, Federico Alarcón, reported this morning that last Friday the start of the contract file was approved for the “drafting of the project and construction management, management of work execution and coordination of health and safety of the completion works of the “Pabellón Blanco” of the Torrevieja Sports City. The tender budget for this contract amounts to 42,350 euro. Federico Alarcón has indicated that the works of this multipurpose sports hall have been paralysed since 2015. The work, which could begin from July to end in November, includes closing the ceiling of the two rooms on the upper floor, the installation of safety railings on the stairs and the ascent areas to the upper floor. Likewise, the floor will be replaced with a cushioning material throughout the installation except in the entrance hall, in the changing room area and in the toilets, which will be done with another material to be determined.

The Leader Newspaper The Councillor for Quality of Urban Services of the Torrevieja City Council, Sandra Sánchez, has advised that given the current state of deterioration of the existing benches on the Juan Aparicio and Avenida de los Marineros (Playa del Cura) beach walkways, conservation works have been contracted for these urban furniture elements that required urgent action, due to the fact that no maintenance work has been carried out in recent years. The work takes in a stretch some 600 metres long and consists of the benches located on the edge of both promenades and 20 isolated benches on the Paseo Juan Aparicio. The duration of these works is one month and at a cost of 22,385 euro.

When established this would become the ninth cemetery in the municipality, the largest in the Valencian Community. Much of the population, with over 30,000 people registered, is on the coastal strip. However, the lack of a cemetery forces these residents to bury their loved ones miles away. The one urban cemetery that coastal residents have access to, which is parochial, is in the city, 35 kilometres from the Orihuela Costa. The closest cemetery, within the municipality, is Torremendo, almost 20 kilometres away.

The execution period will be two months. Sandra Sánchez explained that the work plan has been coordinated from the Department of Works and Services with Local Police and Traffic, as well as with the Department of Transportation so that the condition has been minimal. It should be noted that all horizontal signalling works will be carried out at night so that the effect on pedestrians and road traffic is minimal.
