The popular public swimming pool on the SIUE campus will be closed again this summer. A shortage of life guards and late arriving state guidelines on the use of pools this season forced the Edwardsville Parks Department to decide to keep the pool near Tower Lake closed for another season with the hope of reopening for the summer of 2022.
Last summer, it was COVID-19 and restrictions by the Illinois Department of Public Health and kept the pool closed. This year, parks officials said it’s a months-long process to open the pool and they could not begin until they knew what guidelines the state would follow for the summer. While waiting for that decision, they delayed the opening plan that included maintenance and hiring staff. A shortage of life guards was also a part of the decision to keep the pool closed this summer. Parks officials encourage residents and visitors to utilize the splash pad near the Edwardsville

EDWARDSVILLE The City of Edwardsville Community Swimming Pool on the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will remain closed thios summer.
Officials with the Edwardsville Parks and Recreation Department on Thursday announced that they had hoped to open the poool this season after being unable to open last summer because of COVID-19 attendance restrictions from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
“The Parks and Recreation Department is continuing to plan for events and activities for our community to enjoy,” said Nate Tingley, Director of Parks and Recreation. “We appreciate the community for understanding this difficult situation and will be looking forward to seeing everyone at our other wonderful parks this summer.”
