Millville approves budget with no new taxes or fee increases

Millville’s budget for the 2022 fiscal year finds the Town in “good financial shape,” with no increases in taxes or fees, according to Town Manager Debbie Botchie. The budget plans for general and administrative expenses of $911,448, while the Town expects revenues of $1.43 million, Botchie said. The remaining $517,692 would go into the Town’s contingency fund. There has been no increase in fees in Millville since 2008 and no tax increase since 2006. Botchie said the biggest variable in the Town’s 2022 budget is likely to be its new Evans Park at Millville. The playground at the park opened in March, and pickleball courts were set to open May 8.

Millville budget shows smart planning

With no increases in fees since 2008, nor any tax increases since 2006, the Town of Millville appears to be in “good financial shape,” according to Town Manager Debbie Botchie. With its newly-approved budget calling for general and administrative expenses of $911,448, and expected revenues of $1.43 million, the Town is expecting to add more than $500,000 to its contingency fund. Which, you know, is a really good thing. Obviously, robust real estate transfer tax revenues are helpful. The Town had planned for around $336,657 in revenues during the current fiscal year, but the actual revenues as of Jan. 20 were $1.15 million — more than three times the budgeted figure. That helps the Town prepare in case circumstances turn the other way.

Playground, walking trail open at Evans Park in Millville

Millville’s first-ever park has opened (partially) after being delayed by the pandemic.  Evans Park s playground, challenge course and walking trail are now available for expelling all that COVID-19 cabin fever.  The nautically themed playground has sections built for toddlers and older children. The challenge course, designed for preteens to adults, is designed to be used with an app that allows the user to compete with people across the country. The walking trail is about one-sixth of a mile long and runs the perimeter of the park. Along it are four different exercise stations complete with gym equipment. Still under construction are three pickleball courts and a pavilion. The 4,000-square-feet community center and bathrooms are not yet open due to pandemic restrictions.
