With firefighters stretched thin during the early days of the czu lightning complex fires, a few locals ignored the Evacuation Orders to try and save homes in their communities. Kron fours Maureen Kelly talked to one man who says he and a group of friends. Were able to keep more than 2 dozen homes and bonny doon from being destroyed. In t shirts involved having on the Santa Cruz Mountains locals pump water onto the burning forest in an effort to save homes. This video was shot by ben lomond native keilar ruskin who says he drove down from where he lives now in reno after hearing about the czu lightning complex fires. Threatening the bonny doon home of his best friend ruskin says he was part of a man squad who in the course of 5 days. Speaking of the fires more breaking news to our south military helicopters are attempting to rescue more than 60 people who are trapped in the creek fire burning in Fresno County. Now today will be their 3rd attempt to try and get these hikers out the rescue operation had to be called off last night because as you can see in this video the smoke just got too heavy and too dense for the helicopter crews. We have a picture of the hikers they seem to be doing in fact this photograph shows you theyre all hunker down right now at the vermilion. Campers and lake edison volunteers are helping them stay fed and hydrated as they wait to be rescued again theyre in good spirits for now because they are still a little bit of ways

Our breaking news that were covering, this week will be critical more than 14,000 firefighters battle 17 major fire complexes sparked by lightning storms burning mostly in Northern California. The wildfires caused at least seven deaths statewide and destroyed at least 1,200 homes. And in the bay area there is a lot of ground to cover. Our team once again covering every inch of it this morning. Today in the bays Cierra Johnson is live in wine country where workers were nervously hunkered down there. But we begin with kris sanchez in Santa Cruz County. Were actually hearing from an evacuee. Reporter yeah. Weve been hearing a lot of these harrowing stories of how fast people had to pick up and leave. Sheriffs deputies are still looking for four people who are missing, reported missing from the evacuation area. That means no one knows whether they made it out or not. Maybe theyre among the 77,000 evacuees.
