Ahead of polls, beer flows freely in Dahod | Vadodara News

Vadodara: Elections officials and Dahod police have begun a probe after a video of liquor being openly distributed in a pandal believed to be put up for a public meeting went viral. The video is said to be from a village in Devgadh Baria taluka of the tribal district. The video shows beer tins being distributed in large numbers to people who were present in the pandal. Many in the crowd were also wearing orange scarves. Dahod superintendent of police Hitesh Joysar said that police had also received the video and started an investigation. “We are looking into the violation of prohibition while election officials will probe violation of the poll code,” he said.

Congress demands re-election in ward 6 | Vadodara News

Vadodara: The Congress party plans to approach the Gujarat high court seeking re-election in ward 6 in the city. The party has already written to the district election officer and demanded re-election citing anomalies. On Tuesday evening, a group of Congress workers led by candidates of ward 6 had protested at the counting centre and threatened to stage dharna. “The counting for ward 6 was held in room 83 and 84 at Polytechnic College on Tuesday. It was a close fight, so we demanded recounting in room 83 and the poll officials obliged. After recounting, BJP’s lead reduced by 6,000 votes,” claimed Rutvij Joshi, Gujarat Congress spokesperson.

Student outfit demands refund of excess fees, threatens stir | Vadodara News

Vadodara: A student outfit on Wednesday demanded that M S University should immediately refund fees of those engineering students whose fees was deducted twice last year. According to Vidyarthi Vikas Sangh (VVS) fees of 14 engineering students of Faculty of Technology and Engineering (FTE) was deducted twice last year because of a technical snag. “Students of first semester of all the years were supposed to pay the fees online for the academic year 2020-21. But in many cases, because of some technical snag, money was deducted twice,” said Ankit Lakhani, vice-president of VVS at FTE. Lakhani said that when the technical snag surfaced on the university’s portal last year, they were assured by the university authorities that the extra fees that was deducted due to the technicality will be refunded.

BJP office bearers offer resignation | Vadodara News

Vadodara: With the Congress making a clean sweep in the ward 1 in the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), the president and general secretaries of BJP there have offered their resignations. BJP ward president Ketan Sheth as well as general secretaries Magan Parmar and Daxesh Gandhi tendered their resignations. The city unit of the party, however, has not accepted the resignations and will discuss it in the coming days. The Congress won only seven of the 76 seats in VMC. Out of these seven seats, four came from ward 1 where the entire Congress panel of four candidates won and former standing committee chairman Satish Patel from BJP too lost.

Liquor seized from car of 'executive magistrate' | Vadodara News

VADODARA: Around 108 liquor bottles worth Rs 56,160 were found in car which had a sticker of ‘deputy mamlatdar and executive magistrate’ pasted on it in Chhota Udepur district on Tuesday. Police said that they noticed a car suspiciously parked on Chhota Udepur-Bodeli road near Devaliya village on Tuesday. Along with the liquor bottles, a mobile phone was also found under the driver’s seat. “The car has been seized and we are trying to ascertain the owner’s detail. The phone and sim card are also being investigated for the call details,” said a police official. Whether the car was owned by a government official or not will be known only after the owner’s details are obtained from the RTO.

Representative Image VADODARA: A man's greed to double his money through tantric rituals left him only with a coconut in the end and losing Rs 5.5 lakh cash! The victim, Jaideepsinh Parmar, who lives in Bavla, lodged a complaint at Bodeli police station as the unidentified tantric and his two accomplices, Shankar and Abdul, fled with Rs 5.5 lakh which Parmar and his cousin Dhanrajsinh had given. Dhanrajsinh had learnt from his two friends, Sahil and Manish, that a tantric who has an ashram in Chhota Udepur doubles money by performing some rituals. The four went to the ashram on February 17 along with Abdul and Shankar and initially gave Rs 2.5 lakh cash. The tantric kept the cash in a steel case and after the rituals gave the case to Parmar with instructions to not open it until told. After the rituals got over late in the night on February 17, the tantric asked them to return home.

Gujarat: Covid cases up 47% in 4 days | Vadodara News

Photo for representative purpose only AHMEDABAD: On February 20 — a day before the major cities went for civic polls — the state had recorded 258 new cases. In a matter of four days, the number shot up to 380, recording a 47% rise. From February 22, the state has again started recording 300-plus cases. In fact, Tuesday’s tally was the highest in 29 days. From February 20, the state also witnessed a surge in active cases — rising from 1,672 on February 20 to 1,869 on February 24, recording a 12% jump. Experts pointed out that the state was recording constantly falling active cases till February 20, after which the gap between new positive cases and patients getting discharged started increasing, resulting in more active cases.
