Andrew Austin didn’t have a lawyer when he logged onto Zoom in civil court this November, but the Newark Housing Authority did.
“The judge didn’t listen to anything I had to say,” Austin said. “She gave me two weeks to get out of there or the sheriff’s department was going to come.”
He and his girlfriend left the Wynona Lipman Gardens townhome in Newark when Superior Court Judge Lisa Adubato in November handed down the ejectment order, a legally different term and process than an eviction.
Housing Authority will go directly to seniors to vaccinate them against coronavirus

Seniors who live in Newark Housing Authority properties can avoid the long lines many New Jerseyans have experienced to get the coronavirus vaccine.
The Newark Housing Authority is working with the city’s health department to bring the Moderna vaccine directly to seniors in their apartments. Vaccinations at Newark Housing Authority’s senior buildings are set to begin on Monday.
“The issue of transportation came up in conversation,” Newark Housing Authority Director Victor Cirilo told NJ Advance Media on Friday. “That became a barrier for a lot of elderly, especially fragile individuals.”
