i think it s okay to be concerned. particularly along the north carolina outer banks. now maria will not make a direct hit there, but the impacts are likely to be felt. right now, a solid category 2 storm near winds are at 105 miles an hour. it is moving straight north at around nine miles per hour. expected to edge it s way closer and closer to the coastline by about wednesday, here s where it is as a category 1, 85 mile per hour winds sitting off the coast of cape hath ris. mind you, the hurricane-force winds extend about 60 miles from the center. so that s going to be enough to certainly bring up the wave action, some rain and certainly some rough weather there along the carolinas so taking a look at those tropical storm watches now up from surf city, north carolina, to the virginia border, that means tropical storm conditions are expected. now that would be winds at least 39 miles per hour or higher. so, again, gusty conditions and particularly a very rough surf. and that s going

hour, gusts up to 155. as you said, approaching the central bahamas as a category 3. we could possibly see more strengthening as we go through the next 24 hours. and then this storm is expected to weaken as we go through saturday, sunday, even into monday. the cone of uncertainty right now has it making landfall anywhere from north carolina coast all the way up to maine. that is a large area. and when you are about five days out, the storm only stays inside the cone about two-thirds of the time. there s about a 30% chance this storm could make landfall outside the cone or even stay out to sea. some of the models are still forecasting that. this has been the problem. the models are everywhere. we have forecast models making landfall. the georgia/south carolina border. we have them making landfall around the virginia border, all the way up to new york. the models are not agreeing at all. some of the models taking it out
