Voters across the region will head to the polls Tuesday to decide who will represent them on City Council and in other municipal offices, township boards and school boards. They ll also determine several tax measures, including a proposed increase for ambulance service in southwest Winnebago County and a new sales tax in Durand.
Here are some of the common questions voters have ahead of Election Day and a breakdown of key races on the ballot.

ROCKFORD Newcomer Kamrin Muhammad is challenging Rockford School Board President Ken Scrivano for his seat on the board, which he’s held since 2011.
Scrivano is a retired respiratory therapist and hospital administrator. Muhammad is a recreation coordinator at Washington Park Community Center.
Muhammad has a 15-year-old son who attends Auburn High School. Scrivano’s grandchildren attend Rockford Public Schools.
Both candidates are seeking votes in subdistrict C, a geographic area on the city’s northwest side roughly bounded by Auburn Street, the Rock River and Meridian and Latham roads.
Schools within subdistrict C are Conklin, Welsh, West and West View.

Rockford Park District doesn t want you to wear your heart on your sleeve. They want you to hang it on a tree! It s part of their 2021 Winter Flurry initiative called We Love Our Parks. That s when kids (and their families and friends) create colorful stained-glass hearts and hang them on designated trees throughout the city.

Laura Gibbs-Green is the communications manager for the park district. She said they are distributing free kits throughout the community and that the kits are a great way for families to create art, get outside and have fun. We give you all the supplies, she said, everything you need in a kit. We have 1,000 kits.
