this kind of behavior, that s why we punish tax evasion, and also to protect the public, to make sure that someone who was a threat to the rest of us is no longer walking free. in this case, the prosecution didn t even explain how he defrauded the banks. after the banks lose money? i don t think they did. they didn t explain how much he should have paid in federal taxes but didn t, and i don t think there s a single person in america feels a physical threat or even a moral threat from 69-year-old paul manafort. they are not even pretending this isn t political. they are not. if they are, they are doing a really poor job and it really begs the question, talker, if the federal government and all the taxpayer assets that support it thought paul manafort was such a threat to the republic, why didn t they warn the trump team? barack obama was the president of the united states, not the democrat party. why didn t they warn the trauma team that this dangerous threat

of something, he s guilty of helping donald trump win. and by the way, tucker, some of the same process crimes and suspicious activity mueller has accused manafort of, ironically enough, democrats accused of the same thing of people connected to democrats seem to have gotten up to this point a relativelyy free legal pass. tucker: even as a matter of appearances, would you, if youte were robert mueller, appoint as the lead prosecutor in a case against donald trump s former campaign manager, a hillary partisan who went to her victory party on election night? [laughs] tucker, this is a joke. they re not even hiding it. can i double down on you? how about this. andrew weissmann, yes, attended hillary s party. jeannie rhee, one of his lead prosecutors in the case represented the clinton foundation. aaron zebley, another. prosecutr in the case who is friendly with the whole mueller crew, represented one of the clinton

you have the privilege to pay a fortune as a penalty in order to not pay a fortune for bad health care. is that a good thing? i don t think so. you know how many people have comeme up to me and said thank u very much for getting rid of the individual mandate? it sounds so nice. isn t that the beautiful term? individual mandate is wonderful. i m acting presidential now, the individual mandate. it s a disaster that sounds good like the affordable care act was not affordable. remember when bill clinton got up and he saidd the problem with the affordable care act is that it s not affordable. andd then you didn t hear from him for two weeks because he got the hell knocked out of him. for two weeks he went dead silent, they wouldn t let him out of the house.

asking you questions about this criminal matter, you don t have to be sworn under oath. the second that you talk to them and that you lie to them and they can prove that you lied to them, in other words, that you knew what you were telling them was in fact a lie, then they can charge you with that. so that s something that s also been included here in this case. overall, a 30-page indictment, this is a pretty significant step forward in a criminal prosecution. tom winter, always on top of these developments with the fbi for us. thanks very much. to help me break down the charges, i m joined by liz holtzman, a long-time congresswoman who voted to impeach president nixon. i m also joined by barbara mcquade who s also a legal contributor for us an is outside the alexandria courthouse because she has been following very closely the paul manafort trial which we are going to get to here in a few minutes. so, liz,
it was much lengthier, which i think caused some of us to speculate that all of these delays related to some juror issue, but the jurors are all back. there s been no further discussion of the reason for the delay. testimony is ongoing. the other intriguing thing that happened today was about sealed testimony about some rick gates testimony that could have to do with an investigation that is still ongoing. when we consider what investigations are still ongoing that rick gates might have to do with, we re looking at the larger special counsel investigation into the russia probe. what do you make of that testimony being put under seal by the judge? well, that came after an objection when the defense asked rick gates if he was asked questions by the fbi about his role in the trump campaign. and so at that point there was this sidebar where no doubt they discussed the scope of rick gates cooperation. it would not surprise me if he wasn t providing information about the time that he
court s been in session, julia? reporter: so court is just getting started behind me, hallie. they had a little bit of a delay this morning but right now we re seamana for the s defense attorney come up to the front. he s ready to ask rick gates more questions. on the way into court downey said they were feeling good and confident today that they are doing well in this case, especially because he is now continuing that cross-examination. it was pretty ruthless yesterday. they found gates to be someone who had a secret life. they had him detail this private flat london that he used to have an affair. talked about stealing hundred of thousands of dollars from paul man for the. they also started asking him about like to the fbi and for some reason gates was a little squirrely on that issue. he wouldn t come out and said he did it even though that s what he pled guilty to just months ago. they re trying to paint someone that the jury would not believe as credible, which is key to their

posing as a romanian hacker. it is a good rule of thumb. it is a good rule of them, and you know, i think, you know, one way or another, they are looking at something serious about roger stone and that seems to be coming to a head. so they are using this collaterally to attack the investigation itself. you know, stone has said that he knows he is going it be or he thinks he is going to be indicted and he is preparing for it. he has had a falling out with nunberg, how do you think he is preparing himself for this? well, he certainly doesn t seem worried but that is kind of within his m.o. but i mean, they are certainly closing in on him even with kristin davis testifying to the grand jury shortly after she was interviewed by mueller, i think, you know, clear indication that
they are looking to bring charges against him and similar to manafort, might be unrelated to russian hacking or collusion. and it cullould be something ins past a
