D.C. United hosts the first meeting of the 2021 Atlantic Cup tonight, as they host their arch-rivals the New York Red Bulls. Both teams are just outside of the playoff spots in the East, but they’ve each been in better form in the last six weeks after starting the year slowly. With United now a high-pressing team like the Red Bulls have been for years, this game figures to be a tough-as-nails battle.
Key concept: Finishing
We saw a familiar tale play out early in Chicago Wednesday night, with United creating the first three notable chances of the game, and more than enough looks to take a lead into the locker room at Soldier Field. While Bobby Shuttleworth made some good stops, the fact is that United — other than Frédéric Brillant’s early header — also helped him out by shooting at him, or shooting wide.

After Polish striker Patryk Klimala put the visitors ahead in the 46th minute, Priso pulled Toronto even in the 62nd minute. Red Bulls goalkeeper Carlos Coronel was only able to tip a high Yeferson Soteldo cross away and the ball went straight to Priso whose left-footed shot bounced off the ground and into the goal on Toronto’s first shot on target.
The goal, in Priso’s 11th career MLS game, brought Toronto and the fans at BMO Field to life with Soteldo starting to attack down the left wing

Ralph Priso's first career MLS goal was the second-half equalizer for Toronto FC in a 1-1 draw with the visiting New York Red Bulls on Wednesday.
With Toronto (2-8-4, 10 points) trailing in the 62nd minute, designated player Yeferson Soteldo sent a cross toward net that was batted aside by New York's Carlos Coronel. The goalkeeper's intent was to keep the ball away from a threatening Jozy Altidore, but it left Priso with plenty of room to direct his shot into his net.
The Red Bulls (5-5-3, 18 points) established their lead when Patryk Klimala scored less than a minute into the second half. The play began with a long pass into a poorly defended Fabio. Toronto goalkeeper Alex Bono blocked attempts by both Fabio and Klimala before Klimala converted his own rebound for the score.

The only thing better than watching the Toronto summer sunset is watching that sunset during a TFC game at BMO Field.
Javier Perez’s men came from 1-0 down to salvage a point in their second match at BMO Field in the space of five days. The draw means that TFC are now on a three match unbeaten streak, their longest run of the season so far. Progress nonetheless after the Reds lost six straight games between May 22nd and July 3rd.

TORONTO - It's slow progress and there's a long way to go but Toronto FC is digging its way out of the deep hole it dug itself this season.
Thanks to a goal by teenage substitute Ralph Priso, TFC rallied to tie the New York Red Bulls 1-1 in MLS play Wednesday.
Toronto (2-8-4) is now unbeaten in three games (1-0-2) under interim coach Javier Perez, who took over from the fired Chris Armas in the wake of a six-match losing streak (and seven-game winless run). In those three matches, Perez has already matched the points total Armas had in his 11 games in charges.
