AN INFORMATION APPEAL in relation to the murder of a 56-year-old man who went missing from Portlaoise has been issued by gardaí and Crimestoppers.
William Delaney has been missing since 2019 and gardaí believe he was murdered.
Today is Delaney’s 59th birthday, and gardaí, along with anonymous phone line Crimestoppers, have issued a public appeal for information.
On the morning of 30 January 2019, Delaney left Portlaoise General Hospital where he had been a patient.

Speaking today, Superintendent John Lawless Portlaoise Garda Station, said “I am appealing to any members of the public who have information on the murder of William Delaney, or the whereabouts of his remains to come forward. You may have vital information which could help us. Information which may seem insignificant, might help with this investigation.

William Delaney was reported missing in 2019
A fresh appeal has been issued for information in relation to the murder of a 56-year-old man who went missing in 2019.
William Delaney was last seen at around 3pm on 30 January 2016 in Monasterevin, Co Kildare.
He had left the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise earlier that morning, where he had been a patient.
Gardaí know Mr Delaney collected his social welfare payment at Portlaoise Post Office afterwards.
He called to see a relative in Monasterevin that afternoon, but the relative was not at home.

The then-56-year-old was living in Portlaoise with his family, but is originally from Cashel.
He was last seen in Monasterevin in county Kildare on January 30th 2019 where he called to a relative’s house.
Gardaí believe Mr Delaney was killed, and his body buried in an area of Laois following a tip-off – however no remains have been found following searches.
The appeal has been launched on what would be his 59th birthday, and Gardaí say they believe people in the community have information but have yet to come forward.
