Soon after photography reached the west coast of Africa in the 1840s, there followed a high demand for photos from African elites, European residents, and travellers to the region. Both African and British photographers responded, working along the coasts, particularly in major harbour towns. From 1890-1905, Jonathan Adagogo Green ran a successful photography business in his hometown of Bonny and other Ijo communities within the eastern region of the Niger Delta.
