and i m in the control room. i said to dennis, the drummer, i said, you know, that pattern you re playing right now is just a little too dizzy. he said, well what do you mean? i said, i can t get into specifics about the note values. i didn t have a technical term for the open and close high hat or any of that stuff. so, apparently, you know, i needed a communicator. i was working as an independent producer on some punk band in london. carl called, and he said, what are you doing? i said, well, i just finished the mix. i m on a plane tomorrow. he went to music school in berkeley in new england, and he was one of my best friends. and he said, i ll be on the next flight to florida. i got off the plane. i went straight to the studio. i walked in. they were working on you should be dancing. barry said, what did you think? i said, well, i just got n but sounds awfully good. we seemed to hit it off, so he came back the next day.
