Cost Share Available To Forest Landowners And Industry Monday, May 10, 2021
Multiple cost share opportunities are currently open for application and the Tennessee Department of Agriculture’s Division of Forestry can help. During the month of May, forest landowners can apply for financial assistance to help establish or enhance their woodlands, and loggers can apply to improve harvesting capacity.
“Supporting Tennessee’s forest industries with financial aid helps keep our forests and wildlife healthy and sustainable,” State Forester David Arnold said. “The goal of these cost share programs is to encourage landowners and loggers to use best practices in their land management and during harvesting operations.”

Rising timber prices and the value of individual species have enticed thieves to steal timber across Tennessee. The Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA) urges forest landowners to be aware of timber theft and provides steps owners can take to protect their assets.
“Timber theft can be financially devastating to a landowner,” State Forester David Arnold said. “The value of the timber is not the only loss. In most cases, the thieves damage property and negatively impact conservation efforts and wildlife. We want Tennessee landowners to know what they can do to help protect their property against theft or accidental harvest.”

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee Department of Agriculture reports that rising lumber prices have caused an increase in timber thefts across the state.
The department is urging landowners to take steps to protect their property.
“Timber theft can be financially devastating to a landowner,” State Forester David Arnold said. “The value of the timber is not the only loss. In most cases, the thieves damage property and negatively impact conservation efforts and wildlife. We want Tennessee landowners to know what they can do to help protect their property against theft or accidental harvest.”
The department says landowners should mark their property boundaries and have a plan of action if they do not live on property or are out of town. That includes sharing with neighbors your name, contact information, and requesting they contact local law enforcement if they spot thieves harvesting from your property.
