The Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine has officially reached North Carolina. The state received over 83,000 doses of the newly-approved vaccine. Many Triad health departments didn't receive shipments of the vaccine, but some did. Guilford County received 2,000 doses of the new vaccine this week, while Forsyth County received 9,000 doses. It's unclear why Guilford County received fewer doses of the shipment when the county's population size.
“We’re excited to have another tested, safe and effective vaccine available,” said Public Health Director Joshua Swift. “This will be significant in our collective efforts to vaccinate the community and make sure everyone has access to the vaccine. We encourage everyone to get vaccinated when it is your turn for a vaccine, regardless of the type of vaccine that is available.“
“A one-shot vaccine is a game-changer,” said Dr. Pam Oliver, executive vice president and president Novant Health physician network “We recognize that it can be difficult to take time off work, especially twice in a month. With a one-dose option, it’s now even easier for people to protect themselves against COVID-19. Like the two-dose vaccines already available, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is safe and effective. A third vaccine option also means additional appointments for our community, which is a step in the right direction.”

GREENSBORO, N.C. As more people become eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, many still have questions and concerns. So WFMY News 2 partnered with Cone Health, Novant Health, and Wake Forest Baptist Health to help the public understand the vaccine and appointment process.
A panel of experts from all three health systems joined Tanya Rivera to talk about the vaccine, the need, and the process of getting a vaccine. Panelists included Dr. Alvin Powell, Cone Health Chief of Health Equity and Chief Medical Officer with Annie Penn Hospital, Dr. Nyree Thorne, gastroenterologist with Wake Forest Baptist Health, and Dr. Jaleema Speaks, OBGYN with Novant Health Woman Care.
