May 4 will be the final first-dose vaccination date at the fairgrounds. People who received their first dose at the fairgrounds will get their second dose there through May 24. After that, shots will be given at the health department, 799 Highland Ave. First-dose vaccinations will begin May 6 at the health department.

Davie High offering COVID-19 shots for students on campus in Mocksville

With infectious disease experts lamenting the increase in COVID-19 cases among young people, Davie County Schools will have a vaccine clinic for eligible students at Davie County High School on Wednesday. Students 16 and up are eligible for the Pfizer vaccine, which has a two-dose regimen. The vaccines will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon at the high school’s parking lot. The school is partnering with the Davie County Health and Human Services to offer the shot. “This is a tough group to communicate with from a public health standpoint, with their schedules, and it’s harder for them to be reached as opposed to people who read the daily news,” said Justin White, the deputy director of public health for Davie County Health and Human Services.

DHHS lists COVID-19 cases and deaths on the day they are confirmed by medical providers and public-health officials so people may have been infected or have died days before their cases were counted. There were 61 new cases reported for Sunday. DHHS no longer provides county-level daily dashboard updates over the weekend. The Forsyth case count for the pandemic is 35,022. The average daily case count of 68 over the past two weeks is up from 45 in the previous two-week period, according to Forsyth health director Joshua Swift.
