Forsyth County parents call for mandatory mask policy in schools
Some Forsyth County parents are pushing for a mask mandate inside schools.
FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. - Some parents in Forsyth County want school board officials to start making wearing a mask mandatory inside classrooms.
Right now, school officials said they do not support a mask mandate for all students but expect students to wear a mask when feasible . Some parents said that’s simply not enough.
There’s a petition with over 2,500 signatures pushing for a change. Nobody wants to wear them but it’s something that we have to do to help each other right now, Parent Michelle Pounds said.
Parents and community members recently started a petition, asking the Forsyth County Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Jeff Bearden to mandate face masks for individuals on all school property.
People spent a lot of time indoors this year, which inspired many homeowners to take on a few projects around the house. Buzz60âs Johana Restrepo has more.
Questions about Forsyth County s property tax revaluation have begun to come in. Today, John Burgiss, the county property tax assessor/collector, answers the questions.Â
Q: I was wondering how many people received property tax value appeals notice without a property value in Forsyth County this year and if the clock for the informal appeal restarts when we actually get the value. Our notice, that starts the 30 day clock for an informal appeal has âvalue pendingâ listed, and the attached FAQ says that those with incomplete reviews with value pending will receive a new notice, but doesnât say if the 30 days for an informal appeal will start over when you get the actual value. Iâm not sure what we would be appealing without a tax value listed.

The first time John Elliott Neville s name appeared on the front pages of the Winston-Salem Journal was on June 27, seven months after his death.Â
At the beginning of the summer, Winston-Salem, like the rest of the country, witnessed people pouring out into the streets, angered at the death of George Floyd, a Black man in Minneapolis who died on May 25 after a white police officer placed his knee on Floyd s neck for nearly nine minutes. Floyd was unarmed and lying on the ground, handcuffed.Â
He is seen on a cellphone video, saying the words, I can t breathe. Â
John Neville said the same phrase at least 28 times over a three-minute period, as he lay on his stomach in a jail cell while detention officers piled on top of him in an attempt to remove his handcuffs. His feet were tucked up toward his buttocks. On July 8, the five detention officers and a nurse were charged with involuntary manslaughter â Lt. Lavette Maria Williams, 48; Cpl.
