The number of inmates infected with COVID-19 at the Forsyth County Jail has jumped to 95 after four inmates were retested after results came back inconclusive and new inmates tested positive at the jail s intake, according to the county s health director and the sheriff s office.Â
The Forsyth County Sheriff s Office announced on Monday that after mass testing, 68 inmates had tested positive for COVID-19. The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services reported on Tuesday that 67 inmates at the jail had tested positive. It wasn t immediately clear why there was a discrepancy between the state and local numbers on Tuesday.Â

Itâs a level that isnât always matched by his followers.

Eleven jail staff members have also tested positive.
Thatâs a 12% positivity rate, lower than the national average of 20%, Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough Jr. said. The infected inmates have been placed in separate cells in an assigned quarantine area, officials said.

Kimbrough held a news conference Monday in response to protests over how he has handled evictions and a recent outbreak of COVID-19 at the Forsyth County Jail.
Last Thursday, Housing Justice Now and other groups gathered outside Forsyth County Government Center to protest the fact that people are being evicted in the middle of the pandemic. Protesters said that evicting people is a threat to public safety because it leaves those people vulnerable to contracting COVID-19.

Sixty-eight inmates at the Forsyth County Jail have tested positive for COVID-19, the Forsyth County Sheriffâs Office announced during a news conference Monday morning.
Thatâs an 84 percent increase from the most recent number of 37 inmates that the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services reported on Friday. The state agency reported then that a total of 48 overall positive cases were at the Forsyth County Jail, including 11 staff members.
That total represented the fifth-largest COVID-19 outbreak among 28 correctional facilities listed by DHHS.
During the news conference, B. Williams, director of nursing at the jail, said 568 inmates were tested Tuesday and Wednesday. On Monday morning, the sheriffâs office had 149 test results back. Out of those 149 test results, 68 came back positive, representing a 45% positivity rate.
