The Fiji Times » Ministry sends staff home

9 July, 2021, 4:45 pm The Ministry of Education fired and referred a staff member to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) in 2019 after he received $20,000 from a donor without issuing a receipt, states the Auditor-General’s 2019 report on the Social Services Sector that was tabled in Parliament in June. The Office of the Auditor-General said an official government receipt must be issued for all monies received. “The ministry received on 28/11/2018 a donation of $F20,000 from an embassy to fund the Special Education Program,” said the OAG. “There was no receipt issued to the donor for funds received. “On 11/02/19, an accountable advance for $20,000 was issued to a staff of the ministry. And on 18/02/19, revenue receipt No. 904124 of the same amount was issued by the ministry’s cashier to the same officer for clearance of accountable advance. No other supporting document was produced as acquittal.”
