FIJI UNIONS PLAN MEETING TO DISCUSS LATEST Submitted by admin on Mon, 08/08/2011 - 00:00 DECREE Workers must first obtain permission from regime WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Radio New Zealand International, Aug. 7, 2011) – The Fiji Trades Union Congress is planning a meeting to discuss the interim government’s new employment decree. The Essential National Industries Decree 2011 bans strikes and other actions such as assembly without a permit for designated businesses in industries declared vital to Fiji’s economic success. The decree states that the interim Prime Minister has the power to declare which industries fall into that category. The congress’s national secretary Felix Anthony says the decree aims to eradicate all opposition to the interim government.
