Small world: Jim LeBlanc builds replicas of Leominster landmarks

Danielle Ray LEOMINSTER - Jim LeBlanc thinks small. As in replicas, that is. Since retiring in 2011 after working 38 years as the senior custodian at Memorial Middle School in Fitchburg, LeBlanc has been creating replicas of Leominster landmarks, including his latest creation the historic train depot building in the city’s downtown. “I thought the Leominster depot would be a good subject since it is a landmark in the town and a beautiful building,” he said. The 1/32 scale replica, which LeBlanc built completely from scratch, lights up and is made from 2,000 handcrafted bricks. It took him roughly six months to make – 1,000 hours of time. LeBlanc said he is willing to part with it for $950.

We re a small frontline staff and they re very vulnerable, Russell said. There are also concerns that January could be a particularly difficult month for increased COVID infections after people have returned from holiday gatherings, he said. I think it s important for the cultural sector to not only participate fully with the civic authorities but also show some leadership, Russell said.

But the masses of poinsettia, pine and blooming amaryllis had to be dismantled after Mayor Marty Walsh announced Tuesday that museums must close their doors again as part of the rollback to Boston s economic reopening plan.
