Longtime Millbury police officer appointed as Millbury’s next police chief Lisa Redmond MILLBURY On the heels of the retirement of Police Chief Donald P. Desorcy this month, veteran Millbury Police Lt. Brian S. Lewos becomes the town’s new chief, effective Jan. 26. On Jan. 12, the select board voted to appoint Lewos as the town’s new police chief, but tabled ratifying his employment agreement. Lewos did not attend the meeting. Lewos’ appointment was no surprise. He has been trained for the chief’s job via a succession plan developed by Desorcy more than two years ago to ensure a smooth transition when Desorcy retired.

Set to begin next fall, the Moving to College pilot is a continuation of another state effort, the Massachusetts Student Housing Security Pilot, launched in 2018. The difference between the programs is school officials will target homeless students who have just graduated high school, as opposed to those who ve been in college for several years.

Mount Wachusett Community College nursing students want to help battle COVID, but graduation is pushed back with lack of clinical placements Updated Jan 11, 2021; Seeing the spread of COVID-19 grip Massachusetts, as hospitals fill up while a second surge of the virus continues, local nursing students want to help on the front lines. But graduation has been delayed for nursing students at Mount Wachusett Community College because of a lack of clinical placements, and the need to have in-person clinical hours before completing the program. The decision has left students feeling frustrated and discouraged, yearning to put their skills to use during the pandemic.

Cronin, Kilcoyne and Kushmerek, newcomers in state Legislature, lay out visions State Sen. John Cronin Cronin, 30, of Lunenburg takes over as senator from the Worcester and Middlesex District. In November, Cronin defeated Republican incumbent Dean Tran of Fitchburg in the general election. The seat covers Fitchburg, Gardner, Leominster, Berlin, Bolton, Clinton Precincts 1 and 2, Lancaster, Lunenburg, Sterling, Westminster and Townsend   After joining the military at 19, Cronin attended West Point and was commissioned as an infantry officer, serving two tours in Afghanistan. He was discharged honorably as a captain in 2018. After his time in Afghanistan, Cronin did legal advocacy work for veterans at a legal services center in Jamaica Plain.
