Countdown star Rachel Riley was left unable to sleep and bombarded with abuse after Jeremy Corbyn s former aide claimed she said he deserves to be violently attacked because he is a Nazi , the High Court heard today.
William Bennett QC told Mr Justice Nicklin that the tweet posted by Laura Murray about two years ago caused serious harm to Ms Riley, 35, who appears in the Channel 4 show Countdown.
Ms Murray is disputing the libel claim. Mr Justice Nicklin began overseeing the trial at the High Court in London on Monday and it is due to end later this week.

Television presenter Rachel Riley’s reputation was damaged when she was criticised in a tweet posted by a former senior aide to ex-Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, a lawyer has told a High Court judge overseeing a libel trial.
William Bennett QC told Mr Justice Nicklin on Monday that the tweet posted by Laura Murray about two years ago caused serious harm to Ms Riley, 35, who appears in the Channel 4 show Countdown.
Ms Murray is disputing the claim.
Mr Justice Nicklin began overseeing the trial, at the High Court in London, on Monday.
The trial is due to end late this week.

Rachel Riley on Monday claimed Jeremy Corbyn supporters attempted to get her sacked from her job at Countdown after a former aide accused her of labelling the former Labour leader a Nazi , the High Court heard.
The television presenter, 35, said she feared bosses Channel 4 would terminate her contract in the wake of a social media backlash after Laura Murray said she was as dangerous as she is stupid .
