Santa Fe Trail s 200 years of travel

Copyright © 2021 Albuquerque Journal PUERTOCITO DE LA PIEDRA LUMBRE – That’s a lot of name for a next-to-nothing place on N.M. 283 just west of I-25 and south of Las Vegas. But according to the historical markers here, there’s more to it than is apparent. This is where the storied Santa Fe Trail, a major commercial road running about 900 miles from Missouri to New Mexico, was born nearly 200 years ago. Visitors to Fort Union National Monument, near Watrous, see the remnants of fort walls and ruts made by wagon traffic on the Santa Fe Trail. Fort Union was established in 1851 near the junction of the trail’s Mountain and Cimarron cutoff routes. (Eddie Moore/Albuquerque Journal)

One  such troop, Troop 1150, is chartered to Sparta United Methodist Church and has close to thirty  five Scouts, who are actively engaged in the Scouting program, which includes, inter alia, hiking,  camping, aquatics, leadership and community service.  On Saturday, May 8, 2021, Troop 1150 will host its first Eagle Scout Court of Honor for  three of its seven members of the Inaugural Class of Female Eagle Scouts.

Community Roundup: Scout Troop 339 collects 8 million pounds of paper

Community Roundup: Scout Troop 339 collects 8 million pounds of paper Submitted Scout Troop 339 exceeds 8 million pounds of paper FREMONT - During its paper drive in May, St Ann’s Scout Troop 339 exceeded the 8-million pound mark of newspapers collected over its 42 continuous years of quarterly paper drives. All of the papers were collected and hand loaded into semi-trucks by the Scouts and their leaders. When products are made with this recycled newspaper, not only are raw materials saved, but other resources like oil and water are saved as well.  It also takes less energy, saves landfill space, and produces less air pollution.
