Petersburg goes under Flash Flood Watch as Tropical Storm Elsa approaches Virginia: NWS
The heaviest rain is expected Thursday afternoon. NWS now expects 2-3 inches of rain to fall across the area, with some isolated spots seeing more.

PETERSBURG The National Weather Service will put Petersburg and vicinity under a Flash Flood Watch beginning Thursday afternoon, around the same time the effects of Tropical Storm Elsa will begin to thwack our area.
Also, the NWS office in Wakefield has upped the expected amount of rainfall from 1-2 inches to 2-3 inches. New maps issued by the weather service Wednesday night have the storm taking a bit more westerly path through central Virginia. Some isolated parts of the region may seen rain totals as much as five inches before Elsa takes leave in the overnight hours into Friday.
